Coffee Makes the World go Round

2017. január 11. - LaMimieux

One of the not-so-creative gifts we gave this Christmas was the one my Dad received from us – because, let’s face it, it’s always the hardest to give something for the dads, or is it just me? Anyway, his gift ended up being a rather modest one, in the shape of a bag of specialty coffee (he does like his coffee very much, so it’s not a random gift) which I got from one of my favorite Budapest cafés, Madal, where a very nice barista (a big shut-out to him!) helped me pick the best one for my Dad’s coffee machine/taste.

So here’s the thing about me and coffee: I like it all right, but I’ not like a die-hard fan. Sometimes I go for days without it, other times I can’t wait to sit down at a nice café and have a cappuccino/flat white (I’m a cappuccino/flat white kind of girl). And I actually think this describes my relationship with coffee, because for me, it’s not about getting a caffeine high, or staying awake (or waking up), but about the flavors, and most of all, the vibe. Put me in a nice coffee shop with a perfectly made drink in front of me, add a book to the equation, and I’m happy.

And the thing is, since coffee is mostly about its actual flavor to me, I don’t like any kind of coffee. Safe to say, I’m kind of a snob when it comes to coffee. But once you try the good stuff, there’s no turning back… And this leads us back to our little story, because, as I said, once you taste the good stuff, the rest tastes poor, and this happened to my Dad, too (sorry!), so soon enough we ended up ordering some of the same coffee he got for Christmas, plus two others, just for good measure.

Since the package arrived, we tried all three of the coffees, and my favorite remains (for now) the one I got from the café in the first place, which is Beanlight’s Sofia Antioquia. Instant love. But the other two are pretty good too, one of them is also from Beanlight, called La Montana, while the third is Beyond Within’s Huye Mountain Rwanda.

Despite the little info-cards they provided in the package, I have no idea what makes coffee good in terms of flavor and acidity and whatnot, so I can’t really tell you much about them, sorry. I just know if it’s good or it’s not. And these are good. So, instead of detailed descriptions, here are some pictures – sorry if it’ll make you want to drink a cup of java right now, or not sorry if it’s the right time!

Anyways, cheers to good coffee guys!
