Here's What to Read This Summer

2017. július 17. - LaMimieux

Hello friends, I’m back. I took a break from posting here – to be honest, it took a lot of time to write my posts both in English and my native Hungarian, so for a while I decided to go with just the one. Now, however, I’ll give this platform another go, so if you have any feedback, it would be really appreciated! Help be stay motivated, will you? :)

Anyway, I’m back with books! In my post about my plans for the New Year, I wrote that I wanted to read more – well, guess what, I’ve been doing fine until summer, but lately I noticed that after I finish work, I’m more likely to just do stuff on my phone as my brain is too dead to read. And now I want to change that, so I figured I’m going to share the books that I want to read with you, and launch my very own book club (I always wanted to be in a book club) – and please, feel free to join in. My one-person club is fun, but weird, so, yeah…

Another reason I haven’t really been reading is that I’m a hoarder. Here, I said it. I’m a hoarder of books, and then I have too many options to choose from, and I end up not reading ANYTHING, because choosing is too stressful. Now, that’s bad. To avoid this happening, I picked three books that I want to read this summer. Here they are.

(The links to the books are affiliate links, which means that I’ll receive a small percentage of the revenue made from purchasing the books through these links – it helps me a lot, so thank you if you do so!)

Truman Capote: Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Confession time, I didn’t know this was a book, I only knew about the movie, but I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one. Anyway, I already started reading it, and I love it so far. I like the writing style, and since it takes place in New York, I was in love with it since the beginning. Big NYC fan here. Plus I loved the movie, too,

Anthony Doerr: All the Lights We Cannot See

The proof of me being a hoarder: I don’t know when and why did I buy this. I mean, obviously, I’m interested in it, but still, can’t remember the exact moment when I was like “yeah, I need this”. I’m a little afraid of this one, as it might be too dramatic for me, but I’m going to give it a go because it does sound thrilling.

Eleanor Catton: The Luminaries

Oh, this book. We have a history. I’ve been trying to read this one for YEARS. I always start on it, then stop after about a hundred pages and leave it alone for a few weeks for some reason, but since the story is sooo intricate, and there’re sooo many characters, you can’t just go back after a hiatus – you have to start again. This happened twice already, but I’ll have to start it again and finish it this time, because it just sounds so good, and I read many good reviews about it.

So, these are the books I picked for the summer. And, accidentally, they are all blue, but I swear that wasn’t a conscious choice – I do love me some blue, however. Have you read any of these books? If yes, what do you think of them? And if you have any other recommendations, please feel free to share in the comments!
