Don’t be scared by the title, I promise it won’t be weird… Or at least it won’t be too weird. So, please, come along, and let’s roast some pumpkin seeds and have a chat with me!
I’m going to start with the pumpkin seeds, as that’s the easier part. So, remember how I told you about carving our pumpkin and saving the seeds for later? Well, these are the seeds, and now is the later. Yesterday I grabbed them and popped them in the oven - it turned out really well.
It’s like the easiest thing ever – clean the seeds, let them dry, then splash some olive oil on them, use some spices, put them in the oven for about 15 minutes, and you’re done! That’s it, really. But I’m going to give you a more proper description anyway.
Oh, an PS, don’t get scared of the occasional bangs that come out of the oven – these are just the sounds of the pumpkin seeds having a great time.
What you’ll need:
- Raw pumpkin seeds
- A baking tray
- Olive oil
- Your spice(s) of choice – I used ground cumin
- Salt
How:
- After scraping the brains of your pumpkin out, gather the seeds, clean them, and let them dry a little.
- Spread the seeds on a baking tray, pour some olive oil on them, and then sprinkle on your spices and salt.
- Mix it well - make sure every seed is coated in oil and spices.
- Put them into a preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, until they are nicely roasted.
- Let them cool, and then enjoy!
These actually turned out better than I expected, and they are already gone. Oh, and here’s a tip: put them in a nice container or jar, make a lovely label, and you have a tasty DIY gift. How great is that?
Aaand now, onto that promised serious chat, that really won’t be that serious, it’s just something that has been bothering me for a while, and I just felt like I have to get it off my chest. Well, I’ll try; I can’t guarantee I can really get my message through.
So, this is for all of you out there who are struggling with the negativity of others. There are just so, sooo many people who will try to bring you down – maybe intentionally, maybe not – but you know, as much as you should respect the opinions of others, sometimes that’s all you should do: they can have their own opinion, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a different one. I don’t mean anything in particular, really, it’s just that after a while, little negative remarks sum up, and make me feel just a teeny-tiny bit annoyed.
It doesn’t really matters if someone rolls their eyes at you for, I don’t know, roasting your own pumpkin seeds, when you could by it, or making new traditions, or doing things differently than the way they think it should be done… Because when it comes to your life, the one opinion that matters the most is yours.
So I guess what I’m trying to say, is that don’t let the people, who are happy in their boxes built from the things they are comfortable with, keep you from peeking, stepping, jumping out from yours.
I’m here to tell you: it feels really great out here.
